The Art of Homecoming: Philoctetes A Staged Reading and Discussion with KSU Veterans

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday March 29

2:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

Join us for an interdisciplinary afternoon of visual art, theatre, poetry, and healing inspired by Marc Chagall’s Penelope et L’ Arc d’ Ulysse (Penelope and the Bow of Ulysses), on view in the museum’s Lasting Impressions: Shaping a Personal Collection exhibition.

The program features a stirring staged reading of Sophocles’ Philoctetes, a timeless tale of betrayal, forgiveness, and the trials of returning home from war. At the heart of the story is Philoctetes’ bow, a powerful symbol of both anguish and redemption, echoing the imagery of Ulysses’ bow in Chagall’s print. Performed by a talented ensemble from Kansas State University, this production draws connections between ancient Greek myths and the personal experiences of local veterans navigating the challenges of homecoming after tours of duty.
