Join Kansas City artist Barry Anderson for an illustrated conversation about The Janus Restraint: Polychrome Ritual, his solo exhibition on view in the Byrnice & Gordon Hurt Gallery on floor two of the Museum of Art + Light September 4, 2026 – February 14, 2027.

Working across video, photography, sound, and installation, Anderson creates layered environments that explore spirituality, ritual, memory, and humanity’s changing relationship with the natural world.

The Janus Restraint: Polychrome Ritual continues an investigation that began with The Janus Restraint (2012-2019), a body of work centered on adolescence, identity, myth, and rites of passage. In this newer series, Anderson turns toward ritual and reverence as ways of understanding landscapes that shape human identity, memory, and belief.

During the program, Anderson will share images and insights into the exhibition’s development, influences, symbols, and creative process. Hear directly from the artist and discover how personal, cultural, and environmental references come together throughout the exhibition.
